SCREENING
House and MOHL Coach and Manager Information
Coaches and Managers,
Thank you for your efforts in volunteering to help instruct and develop our players. In order for you to participate in USA Hockey activities as a coach or manager, certain requirements must be completed to protect both volunteers and players.
COACHES
Each coach must register with USA Hockey ($66.00), complete SafeSport annually (no cost), submit background screening every two years ($30), and attain the coaching level/module for their age group(s).
Note that coaches must have all requirements completed before they can be added to the USA Hockey roster and can participate on the ice or bench.
MANAGERS
Managers may register with USA Hockey as a volunteer member at no cost. Because managers have regular access to minor athletes, managers must also complete Safesport training and background screening. Managers are not allowed on the ice or bench.
Basic Registration Steps
If you follow the steps below, you can navigate the process without too much difficulty.
Step 1: Please obtain a 2026-27 USA Hockey ID number at www.membership.usahockey.com
Coaches' ID numbers are 9 digits plus 5 letters. Managers ID numbers are 9 digits and include 'XX" in the letter area.
Step 2: Then register that number with HHHA for house and MOHL coaches/managers at https://www.hamburghawks.org/registration/73797
For your players: Any player born in 2009 must take the SafeSport course.

USA Hockey Requirements (Must be completed before participating in any team activities)
- Complete the background screening. (Cannot coach until background check has cleared and you have been notified). Typical turnaround is 5-7 days after submitting your information.
- Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training. (Required every year and cannot be added to a roster until completed). Typical turnaround is 48 hours after course completion.
- Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching. (Cost is $20 for the 8u module all others are $25. All modules only need to be completed once per age level. Must be completed PRIOR to participating in any team activities and cannot be added to a roster until completed).
Coaching Education Program (CEP) Clinic Requirements (Must be completed before Dec. 31 each season)
- Find, register and attend the required certification clinic. The Cost is $65. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches must enter USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program at the 6U/8U clinic if coaching at the Learn To Play/Learn To Skate/6U/8U classification or Level 1 if they are coaching 10U classification and above. You can take clinics from June 15th-Dec. 15th each season.

SCREENING
All staff members for a USA Hockey roster must have screening every two years. Follow the link below to begin screening. The screening ID number for USA Hockey should be filled in when you go to the site. If it does not appear, use 35615801.
Coaching Youth Hockey
Steps to Become a USA Hockey Coach
USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. Registration is done online on a yearly basis. Certification is also required. Follow the link below for more information.
Safe Sport
The safety of its participants is of paramount importance to USA Hockey. USA Hockey Safe Sport is the organization's program related to off-ice safety.
USA Hockey has long had systems in place to protect its participants from physical abuse, sexual abuse and other types of abuse and misconduct that can be harmful to youth hockey players and other participants. These include without limitation Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Screening, Locker Room Supervision and Hazing Policies, in addition to Codes of Conduct applicable to administrators, coaches, officials, parents, players and spectators. The USA Hockey Safe Sport Handbook is intended to update and collect USA Hockey’s various policies to protect its participants from all types of misconduct and abuse.
